DMCRT has four teams of people who work to make Dalhousie a safer and healthier community.

The Executive

The Executive is responsible for the smooth operation of all aspects of the society, from training members to organizing first aid sessions open to the Dalhousie community. The Executive is elected by all DMCRT members at the Annual General Meeting in April.

President

Chloe Blackman

president.dcmrt@gmail.com

Originally from Calgary, Chloe moved to Halifax to pursue a double major in Neuroscience and Biology.  She joined DMCRT in 2014 as a volunteer medical responder, and was amazed at the team’s enthusiasm for helping the Dalhousie community. Chloe has always been passionate about being involved in the community and helping others, so DMCRT seemed like the perfect fit for her. In 2015, Chloe was the secretary for the team, and had an amazing time acting as liaison between the society members and the executive team. Chloe is excited to take on her new role as Vice President of Operations and cannot wait to see what DMCRT has in store for her this year!

Vice President of ADMINISTRATION

Laura Abrioux

vpa.dmcrt@gmail.com

Originally from the other coast, Laura is a native Vancouverite and in her last year of the Medical Sciences program. She intends to pursue a masters in public policy and a law degree in the hopes of working in public health and international law. Laura joined DMCRT in 2015 as a Volunteer Medical Responder and was honoured to serve as Vice President of External Communications last year. She is constantly in awe of the enthusiasm and commitment of her team members and feels extremely privileged to be able to serve the Dalhousie community in this capacity. Laura is thrilled to be a part of this year’s fantastic Executive and is beyond excited to get started!

Vice President of OPERATIONS

Laura Miller

vpo.dmcrt@gmail.com

Laura is a born-and- raised Haligonian. She first attended Dalhousie for her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience and is now doing her Master’s in Health Promotion. Laura first joined the team in 2015. She has always been interested in helping others within her community, especially in areas related to health and wellness. As she had also been a lifeguard for many years, she was keen to step up her first aid knowledge and skills – DMCRT therefore seemed like a good fit for her! This is Laura’s third year on the team and was a duty supervisor in her previous year, winning the “Most Dedicated First Responder” award. She is now very excited to be a member of the executive team for her last year at Dalhousie.

Vice President of External Communications

Casey Jones

vpe.dmcrt@gmail.com

Born in Ontario and raised on the east coast, Casey has been a part of DMCRT since its inception in 2014 as a VMR and is now happy to play a role on the executive team of the society. Finishing his undergraduate degree in Microbiology & Immunology in 2016, Casey is now pursuing a Masters in Science in Pharmacology, with his thesis focused on pediatric Crohn’s disease and the gut microbiome. Casey splits his time with DMCRT as President and a captain for the Dalhousie Football Club when he’s not in the lab. He’s constantly focused on how we can cultivate a stronger community at Dalhousie through promotion of sports, health, and wellbeing.

Vice President of Finance

Ali Beydoun

treasurer.dmcrt@gmail.com

Scott is from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia and is currently in his last year of Mineral Resource Engineering. Prior to Dalhousie, he attended Acadia University where he graduated with a Certificate of Applied Science. He joined the team in 2015 as a volunteer medical responder where he received "Most Dedicated Responder". Scott hopes that his First Responder training received through DMCRT will benefit others throughout his career as an Engineer.

Director of mental health

Madeline Tweel

mentalhealth.dmcrt@gmail.com

Madeline recently graduated from Dalhousie with a BSc, and is beginning a Masters in Health Administration in the fall. She has been involved with the Mental Health Division of DMCRT since its beginning in 2014 and has had the opportunity to see the team evolve and grow. Mental health is something Madeline is very passionate about, and with the help of her mental health team, she hopes to spread awareness and act as a helping hand to students struggling with mental illness. "1 in 5 people experience mental illness. But 5 in 5 have mental health." - Wear Your Label.

Secretary

Clara Lownie

info.dmcrt@gmail.com
dmcrt@dal.ca

There are several reasons Clara has fallen in love with the east coast whilst completing her BSc in Neuroscience at Dalhousie and the DMCRT community is definitely one of them! Throughout volunteering as a VMR on the team last year and now in her new position as Secretary, she is constantly reminded of the benefits of the team. Clara believes attaining advanced first aid skills/knowledge is empowering for all volunteers as well as the students and staff they serve. She is looking forward to watching the 2017/2018 volunteers grow and master their skills as the year progresses and hopes to be a valuable resource for all members of the team alike!
