DMCRT has four teams of people who work to make Dalhousie a safer and healthier community.

The Executive

The Executive is responsible for the smooth operation of all aspects of the society, from training members to organizing first aid sessions open to the Dalhousie community. The Executive is elected by all DMCRT members at the Annual General Meeting in April.

Chloe Blackman

Originally from Calgary, Chloe moved to Halifax to pursue a double major in Neuroscience and Biology.  She joined DMCRT in 2014 as a volunteer medical responder, and was amazed at the team’s enthusiasm for helping the Dalhousie community. Chloe has always been passionate about being involved in the community and helping others, so DMCRT seemed like the perfect fit for her. In 2015, Chloe was the secretary for the team, and had an amazing time acting as liaison between the society members and the executive team. In 2016, Chloe was the VP of Operations for the DMCRT, taking care of the day-to-day functioning of the society.

Mackenzie Cook

Mackenzie was raised in the small town of Guysborough, Nova Scotia before moving to Halifax to attend Dalhousie. She is currently in her fourth year of study completing her Honours in Neuroscience. This is Mackenzie’s first year on the team, but she has been passionate about promoting health and well-being in her community for many years. Mackenzie was training for the role of Mental Health Volunteer before taking on the position of Vice President of Administration, Scheduling. She is already overwhelmed by the compassion and dedication of the team!

Vice President of ADMINISTRATION Human Recourses

Heather Burgess

Heather was born and raised in Halifax, and is currently in her third year of her Bachelor of Medical Science. She joined the DMCRT in 2017 as a Volunteer Medical Responder, inspired by her love of medicine and first aid. This year, she has joined the exec, and was excited to help out in the new position of Vice President of Administration, Human Resources. She is looking forward to working to help the DMCRT grow, and learn this year!

Vice President of OPERATIONS

Zach Moran

Born in Ontario and raised on Prince Edward Island, Zach has always had an interest in first aid, the human body, and keeping people safe. He started off as a swimming instructor and then became a lifeguard at his local pool and on PEI’s beaches. He started his BSc in Kinesiology in 2015 and joined the DMCRT as a VMR in 2017. Zach currently works at Dalhousie in the academic year as a Senior Residence Assistant and enjoys helping students in a number of ways in this role. Over the past three summers, Zach has served in the Canadian Coast Guard as a first responder on inshore rescue boats in Nova Scotia and PEI. He is currently a rescue boat coxswain in Charlottetown. Zach is excited to be on the executive this year and loves his role as VPO!

Vice President of External Communications

Jack Chiasson

Born in Ontario and raised on the east coast, Jack has been a part of DMCRT since 2016 as a VMR and is now happy to play a role on the executive team of the society. Finishing his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology, Jack plans on pursuing a Masters in Physiotherapy. Jack splits his time with DMCRT and his position as a student athletic trainer and strength and conditioning coach with interests in exercise physiology. He’s constantly focused on how we can cultivate a stronger community at Dalhousie through promotion of sports, exercise, health, and wellbeing.

Vice President of Finance

Ali Beydoun

Born and raised in Halifax, Ali is currently in his fourth year of a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with a minor in Indigenous Studies. Ali has been a member of the DMCRT for three years and is now serving his second term as Vice President of Finance for the team. The time he has spent volunteering as a medical responder as well as in an executive role have been a highlight of his time at Dalhousie so far. In his role, Ali hopes to continue helping the team diversify its membership as well as its interests on campus

Director of mental health

Griffin Mumby

Originally from Calgary AB, Griffin moved to Halifax in 2016 to pursue a degree in Neuroscience after a 4-year junior hockey career. He joined the team in 2017 as a Mental Health Volunteer where he won the Mental Health Volunteer Leadership Award. This is Griffin’s first year as the Director of Mental Health, and he is very excited to see the role of the Mental Health Volunteers evolve on campus.  He is thrilled to have the VMRs and MHVs work as a cohesive unit as they move into residence to help provide students with a wide range of physical and mental health related services. With two years left in his undergraduate degree, Griffin is excited to see how the team will continue to grow to help support the mental health needs of students in the Dalhousie community!"1 in 5 people experience mental illness. But 5 in 5 have mental health.”

Samantha Robertson

Samantha has been involved with the DMCRT for the past three years and is happy to play a role on the executive team this year as Secretary. She has an Honors BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo and has been involved with multiple societies at Dalhousie. She spent many years working in the healthcare system and has a passion for helping people. She continues to apply that passion by doing a second degree in Pharmacy and as part of the DMCRT.
