About our Team

The Dalhousie Medical Campus Response Team (DMCRT) is the newest division of the St. John Ambulance NS/PEI organization, known as Unit D1280. St John Ambulance has a long history of service in our province and among its divisions. DMCRT is proud to be a part of St John Ambulance and is devoted to servicing the greater Dalhousie campus and local community.

DMCRT is distinct from many other student union societies. It strives to serve the entire Dalhousie campus and community by encouraging our students to advocate and practice health and safety. Our operations are entirely dependent on student volunteers who are educated, certified, and mentored internally through the organization and St John Ambulance. DMCRT is available to provide medical response at events in the Fall and Winter terms of each academic year, with Spring and Summer being focused on training and preparation of the incoming team and year.

DMCRT operates under a student executive board made up of seven individuals from various academic disciplines. Our society works closely with the Dalhousie Student Union, Dal Security Services, the Dalhousie Student Wellness Team, and Dalhousie University Health Services in order to provide comprehensive service to the community.

Advanced Medical First Response Level I Training

All DMCRT Volunteer Medical Responders are certified with Level I AMFR training through St John Ambulance. AMFR certification involves a 40-hour course, where students are introduced to a thorough standardized assessment protocol, oxygen administration and advanced injury management skills.

St John Ambulance is a world-wide not-for-profit organization that has been operating in Canada since 1883 with the mission of enabling Canadians to improve their health, safety and quality of life by providing training and community service. SJA Canada has more than 25,000 members in communities across the nation.
